MELAMINE

UREA

About

Melamine is a valuable raw material used in the production of high quality plastics, adhesives and industrial coatings. Products with melamine derivatives have high strength, heat, water, wear and light resistance, as well as much less toxicity.

Melamine Formula

Process features

Melamine is synthesized by urea pyrolysis at high temperatures (up to +400C). All melamine production technologies can be divided into 2 groups according to urea pyrolysis method: at low (up to 0.7 MPa) or high pressure (up to 10 MPa)

Technology Providers

  • Melamine production at low pressure: Agrolinz Melamine International (AMI), DSM, BASF, Lurgi
  • High-pressure melamine production: Montedison, Nissan Chemical, Eurotecnica, DSM, Casale

Main Challenge

  • Highly Corrosive Medium
  • High temperature
  • High pressure (in case of HP pressure process)
